Integration is the mathematical operation of finding the area between a graph and the axis of the dependent variable over a given interval. Integration is the opposite of differentiation (an integral is often called an antiderivative).
Multivariable extensions
Edit
A line integral is an integral taken over a curve above a plane, and a surface integral is one taken over a surface in three dimensions. Both can be taken over scalar, vector, or tensor fields.
Integrals in physics
Edit
- $ x(t) = \int^b_a v(t) dt $
- $ v(t) = \int^b_a a(t) dt $
- $ W(d) = \int^b_a F(x) dx $
- $ W(t) = \int^b_a P(t) dt $
